For the crumble, you will need:
90g of rolled oats
90g of wholemeal flour
50g of caster sugar
90g butter
For the filling, you will need:
1000g of apples, peeled, cored and quartered, (we used a mix of normal and cooking apples from the garden)
125g of brown sugar
3 tablespoons of water
One cinnamon stick
Method:
Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°F/gas 5. Peel and core the apples, quarter and cut in to chunks.
Put the apples into a pan with the sugar, cinnamon stick and water. Cook over a low heat for 5 minutes, remove the cinnamon stick and place in a small ovenproof dish.
Place the flour and oats in a bowl and mix well. Cut the butter into small cubes and add this to the oats and flour. Mix with your fingertips until it resembles an even crumb texture. Add the sugar and mix through.
Cover the fruit with the crumble mixture. Bake for approximately 40 minutes until the crumble is golden and the apple hot, enjoy!
